NEXUS STAR Card RMCQ

RMCQ is the heart of the AVATUS IP mixing consoles from STAGETEC. It handles every single operation, manages the mixing console projects and controls the entire data exchange between the console interface, the NEXUS network and the DSP boards assigned to the console. Up to two mixer interfaces can be connected directly to one RMCQ card via RJ45 CAT5 or LC-duplex fiber optic cables. In addition, connections for timecode, MIDI and other controls such as RAS are provided on a common 25-pin D-Sub connector.

NEXUS – RMCQ – The concept:

RMCQ is the central mixing console board for the AVATUS IP series. It is housed in the NEXUS Star Router and controls and links the control actions with the audio processing. With a high refresh rate, it reads out all changes made to the mixer interface, calculates their effects and writes back updates for LED-arc and level meters, graphs for EQs and dynamic units, selected layers and all other values that can be displayed, and of course the metering data, so that these can be displayed by the console on the dedicated displays and especially on the large touchscreens.

The front panel of the board offers two pairs of connectors, each with an RJ45 and SFP port, for redundant connection of the mixing console surfaces. Due to the sophisticated IP concept of the AVATUS mixing consoles, it is possible to connect additional surfaces or distributed installed partial mixing consoles via Ethernet. In addition to the large amount of control data, the audio channels required in the console are also transmitted via all connections. These are limited to the control room signal and the return channel for the talkback microphone.

It is also possible via the network to connect to the RUI web user interface of the mixing console supplied by the web server of the RMCQ card using a browser. A timecode signal for use with the optionally available dynamic automation of the mixing console can be fed in; a RAS control can be implemented via RS232 or RS422, e.g. to trigger fader starts or other mixing console functions in automated operation. In addition, there is a MIDI interface to either receive or send MIDI messages and MIDI machine control contained in the automations, for example. A common 25-pin D-Sub socket is available for all these functions.
