NEXUS STAR Card RMC

RMC card is the heart of every AURUS or CRESCENDO mixing console. It handles every single operation, manages the console's projects and controls the entire data exchange between the console's interface, the NEXUS network and the DSP cards assigned to the console. Up to two mixing console surfaces can be connected to one RMC card. In addition, there are connections for time code, MIDI and other controls such as RAS. The connection between RMC card and mixing console surfaces is established via LC-duplex optical fibers.

NEXUS – RMC– The concept:

The central mixing-console card for the AURUS and CRESCENDO series surfaces is the RMC. It is housed in the NEXUS Star router and controls and links the control actions with the audio processing. With a refresh rate of an incredible 10 ms, it reads out all changes made to the mixing-console interface. RMC calculates their effects and writes back updates for arc and level meters, graphs for EQs and dynamics units, selected layers, and all other displayable values and, of course, metering data, so they can be displayed by the console. The main and slave consoles are connected via the two fiber ports.

In addition to the large amount of control data, the audio channels required in the console are also transmitted via the connection. These are limited to the control room signal and the return channel for the talkback microphone. The RJ45 sockets located below the SFP ports allow an Ethernet connection to the console-internal PC, an additional socket allows the connection of an external control PC for a console- independent project configuration or protection in the event of an emergency.

DAW control software makes it possible to integrate and automate workstations that support the HUI or OASIS protocol with the console and mixing projects. The Virtual-Surface is a PC application that provides an additional mixer control panel. The dynamic automation can be fed with a time code signal; a 15pin D-Sub connector is available to implement RAS control via RS232 or RS422 to trigger e.g. fader starts or other mixer functions in an automated operation. In addition, there is a MIDI interface, e.g. to either receive or send MIDI messages and MIDI machine control contained in the automations.
