AURATUS Design

Ergonomics

Ergonomic considerations are becoming increasingly important with mixing consoles. In particular, users working in visual environments such as film, TV, or live mix require intuitive operation. Users who need to concentrate on the action on stage or on a video screen require a console that allows fast and effective operation. To be intuitive, a mixing console designed for these applications needs to use clear graphics and at-a-glance function confirmation for all controls.

Therefore, the principle of instant access to key parameters on the channel strip familiar from the AURUS was also implemented on the AURATUS.

All functions were optimised for clarity and rapid access — after all, the console is designed not only to be used by engineers, but also by self-drive programme editors for instance.

Like the AURUS but unlike other digital-console concepts, the AURATUS features a massive number of controls providing direct access to the relevant audio parameters.

Six dual-concentric encoders and multicoloured dual LED fans per channel strip provide instant access to all frequently-used console functions. The prearranged association of encoders to parameters considerably simplifies operation for new users; the console has a literally intuitive touch!

Its channel-strip oriented design is supplemented by a master section containing all functions that you will need only occasionally. This conveniently located panel provides access to all functions and parameters of the currently selected channel. The panel’s large TFT displays provide comprehensive information about the parameter settings.

The console dimensions were optimised for quick access to all controls and optimum legibility of the displays and indicators. In addition, the console’s flat design with the characteristic 16:10 screens improves visual contact with the recording room, video screens, and/or the stage. The TFT colour displays offer an extended lateral viewing angle, thus providing for clear legibility from virtually everywhere.

The console surface has a modular layout: a panel unit comprises eight channel strips, allowing for three different console versions with 8, 16, or 24 channels plus the master section.

The AURATUS system therefore offers the best of both worlds: All critical parameters and indicators are directly accessible, even though the user interface is not cluttered with irrelevant functions that might distract you from the creative work at hand.
