116th AES: 5.1 and Stereo at the Same Time - STAGETEC´s flagship AURUS features new panning concept (nur englisch)
Berlin, May 2004: SALZBRENNER STAGETEC MEDIAGROUP has presented a multitude of attractions on this year´s AES. One of the most important magnets on the booth was the AURUS digital mixing console. There were two AURUS consoles on display, avoiding long queueing for a demonstration. One of the consoles was combined with a smaller slave console which can for example be used in theatres as a mobile console within the main hall. The AURUS hardware, or more precisely, the AURUS’ RMC-card, already offers a connection for a second mixing console. Therefore, a simple fibre-optic cable connection between the small console and the AURUS RMC-card is all that is required. There’s no need to program anything!
Designed from scratch as a multichannel console, AURUS features a completely new panning concept: The pan is calculated seperately for every bus! Thus, if a mono signal is sent to a stereo bus, it is routed to the left and right bus channels with regard to the panpot setting. Now, if the same signal is concurrently sent to a 5.1 bus, it will be routed to the three front channels and the two surround channels accordingly. Consequently, different pan settings are computed for one and the same signal when routing it to different busses.
This new approach is of enormous benefit for production: Multichannel and stereo mixes can be created at the same time, thus eliminating the need for subsequent fold down options! Thus, a mix can be optimized for both applications without considerable additional effort.
AURUS is developed and manufactured by STAGETEC in Berlin, one of the founding companies of the MEDIAGROUP. With more than 20 sales worldwide since its introduction to the market in 2003 AURUS is one of the best selling products in recent years of the MEDIAGROUP.
