Format Conversion
Since all audio boards read and write the 24-bit format of the internal
TDM bus, any type of audio input can be routed to any type of NEXUS audio output.
For example, analogue microphone inputs can be routed to digital AES/EBU outputs,
or SDIF-2 inputs to MADI outputs. The system performs the required format conversion
on the fly.
Some of the available output boards provide enhanced format-conversion
features such as re-quantizing of the internal 24-bit data to a 20-bit or 16-bit
output signal. Sample-rate converters are available for a number of boards.
All ancillary data contained in the AES/EBU stream (i.e. channel status, user bits,
and validity) are transparently forwarded from any input to any output in AES/EBU,
S/PDIF and MADI formats. The NEXUS itself can even generate specific ancillary data.
All digital outputs can be toggled between transparent forwarding, professional
format, and consumer format.
The SDI boards even allow for a complete restructuring of the audio embedded into
the video data; they are capable of re-embedding the audio into the SDI signal
and of merging it with other audio data present.
