Data Transmission
NEXUS as a Data Cable
The NEXUS is perfectly suited to forwarding external control data as a
virtual, freely routable data cable. The XTI data-transmission
board allows transparent distribution of serial data through the fibre-optic lines
of the audio network. Serial data streams are routed in the same way as audio signals
using the NEXUS control software and are forwarded unaltered. This even enables cable
length limitations (for example, with MIDI or RS 232, etc.) to be
overcome.
RS 232, RS 422/485, DMX, and MIDI interfaces can be used with maximum data rates
of 144 Kbps. Format-level conversion (e.g. from RS 232 to RS 422) is also supported.
The balanced RS 422/485 format can be used for SMPTE-LTC timecode, tape-machine control,
and lighting control (DMX).
