Compact Base Devices

NEXUS Base Devices are 19" modules ranging from 1 to 15 units in height. Each 3U row equipped with an active XBP (neXus BackPlane) accommodates up to 20 plug-in boards, for a possible total capacity of 60 boards. Extra rows are used to accommodate additional or detached front connection panels. For example, a 9 U system can consist either of three active rows or two active and one passive row. A 15 U system always has three active and two passive rows. Omitting XBP backplanes in the passive rows reduces costs.
Each Base Device is equipped with an XCPU controller board for full autonomy. Thus, the availability of basic functionality is assured regardless of the presence or absence of optical lines and control computers. The Base Device is fed by power-supply units mounted to the backplane to save space. The number of supplies fitted depends on the power requirements of the boards installed. Additional redundant power supplies can be installed, for example, for operation on two independent mains circuits. If a power supply fails, the changeover occurs automatically and without interruption.
