XTI Data-forwarding
Board
2-channel
Duplex Board for Transparent Forwarding
of External Serial Data
- Forwards RS 232, RS 422, RS 485, MIDI, DMX, and
LTC data
- Level and format conversion
- Galvanic isolation of inputs and outputs
|

|
The XTI board is designed for
forwarding external serial data of the following formats over the NEXUS system:
- RS 232
- RS 422 (RS 485)
- MIDI
- DMX (requires high-speed version
)
- Timecode, LTC
- Other formats on request
Function
A virtual cable through the NEXUS audio network is configured for
free routing of external serial data on the system. The data is exchanged between
two or more XTI boards and remains unchanged. I.e. the data is neither edited nor
evaluated or otherwise modified. The XTI board supports two duplex channels
that each have their own dedicated data format. Each channel is galvanically isolated
from both NEXUS and other channels. As the data channels can be freely routed on
the system, level conversion is also supported. (for example, for routing an
RS 232 input signal to an RS 422 output).
An RS 232 channel comprises a serial and three status channels per direction
while a RS 422 carries one data and one status channel due to balanced signal transmission.
A hi-speed version of the board is available for achieving higher data rates: The
data is bundled in a fast mode, and the double transmission rate is provided. |

Forwarding MIDI, LTC, and DMX Data
MIDI-compliant data can also be transmitted; however, for space-saving
purposes, the ports are not implemented as standard 5-pin DIN jacks but as 9-pin
D-Sub ports. The MIDI Thru signal is generated on the board itself.
The same applies to LTC Timecode; here too, the inputs and outputs are made available
via 9-pin D-Sub ports. The double-speed version of the XTI board should be used for
transmitting serial DMX-format data as this format requires a high data rate.
Ports
Both channels are usually made available at 9-pin D-Sub ports. The
wiring is application-specific. Special versions of the board featuring 5-pin DIN
or XLR ports (for MIDI or LTC respectively) are available on request. Due to
the different port dimensions, these variants have a wider front panel (8 DU).

| Note |
The latency depends
on the number and length of the fibre-optic lines between the two ends of a signal
path within the NEXUS system. Maximum data rate of 38.4 kBaud is recommended; faster
transmission can be achieved by using the double-speed version of the XTI board. |
