The XRI relay-interface board
allows external switches and current consumers to be connected and can also be used
for controlling external machines.
The module board provides a maximum of 28 optocoupler inputs with minimum input current
plus the same number of semiconductor-relay outputs handling both direct and alternating
currents. The number of usable inputs and outputs depends on the number of ports.
All inputs and outputs are galvanically isolated from the system. Four contact groups,
galvanically isolated from each other, can be configured.
In addition, the XRI allows entirely potential-free contacts to be created
by joining neighbouring ports. This will cut the number of available channels
in half, i.e. two contacts with common potential become one potential-free
contact. This configuration can be made individually for each contact pair using
jumpers.
The output function can be controlled from the corresponding inputs or from the system
software. In addition, the inputs may be used for controlling routing functions
on the NEXUS system (e.g. setting crosspoints).
Ports
A maximum of four 15-pin D-Sub ports is available depending on the actual
version:
- Inputs: 2 ports (15-pin, female)
- Outputs: 2 ports (15-pin, male)
The standard version of the XRI includes two inputs and two outputs
providing a total of 2 × 14 inputs and the same number of outputs with
common potential. A space-saving version with only one input port and one output
port is available as an option; it provides 14 inputs and 14 outputs on a 4-DU
front panel.
Switching Voltage
An internal power source is optionally available for the board. The
voltage source can be used for querying external switching contacts and for
the outputs. The output power is sufficient for controlling current consumers
directly:
- 5 V/400 mA per output
- Total power of all outputs (max.): 2 W (5 W on request)
- The connector pins can handle currents of up to 2 A (max.)
I/O Applications
The inputs can be triggered by control voltages and be used to query
switching contacts. The following modes of operation are supported:
- Querying external switching contacts using the internal voltage
source.
- Querying external switching contacts using an external voltage
source.
-
Querying external control voltages.
Thanks to the optional integrated voltage source, loads can be triggered
directly, for example, LEDs or power relays. The outputs of the board can also be
used simply as switching outputs. For example, this allows external power sources
to be used. The outputs of the XRI03 can be configured for the following
applications:
- Controlling external loads using the internal voltage source.
- Controlling external loads with common potential.
- Controlling external loads via an external voltage source.
Options Two versions of the XRI relay-interface
board are available:
- 4-DU version: 14 inputs and 14 outputs (each group with one common potential)
- 8-DU version: 2×14 inputs and 2×14 outputs
(each
group with two common potentials)
The board can optionally be equipped with an internal voltage source (max.
power: 5 W).
