This NEXUS 8-channel board is
an interface to the Sony SDIF-2 digital audio format standard. The board is
primarily designed for use with multitrack tape machines but can also be
connected to other peripherals supporting the format.
The duplex board provides eight inputs and eight outputs on separate D-Sub ports.
A version featuring galvanically isolated inputs and outputs is optionally available.
NEXUS
means format diversity: an interface board is available even for
the rarely used SDIF-2 format. The front panel can be detached
from the board and be installed at a different Base Device location.
Optional Variants
On request, versions featuring only an input (XSF-R) or an output
(XSFT) are available for special-purpose applications.
A 3-board assembly sharing a 50-pole D-Sub port is available for 24-channel applications.
8 Channels or 2×4 Channels
With the 8-channel version, all inputs will be synchronised to the
first channel if the channels are in sync. The XSF-S stereo version synchronises
the stereo channels to the respective odd-numbered channel of a stereo pair.
Asynchronous input data is automatically recognized by the board and triggers an
error message.
Ancillary Data
The board reads and writes the emphasis and SCMS status bits. The
entire data format including user data is transparently forwarded between
XSF interfaces on the NEXUS system.
Physical Characteristics
The board requires 1 slot and 8 DU on a NEXUS Base Device. The front
panel can be detached from the board and be installed in an adjacent location;
it will then be connected to the board via a ribbon cable, and the space requirements
will reduce to 4 DU.
