San Remo Festival
CANTUS and NEXUS at San Remo Festival
For the last 40 years, San Remo Festival has been the largest event for
the Italian music industry. The festival is live-broadcasted to more
than 30 countries and is shown on many other nations' TV off-tape. In
Italy, more than 19 million people watch the show every year, thus making
San Remo the most important business event for pop-music industry every
year.
With
due regard to the importance of the festival, Italian RAI (the national public-service
broadcaster) sends a large-scale crew to San Remo to handle the event: 300 highly
qualified technicians and editors, state-of-the-art audio and video technology
with two sound-reinforcement consoles, a couple of big broadcast consoles, and
a comprehensive
NEXUS system as the heart of the whole setup.
CANTUS
and NEXUS were already tested under real-life circumstances at the »San
Remo Giovani«, which is the qualifying contest for talented musicians.
Afterwards, RAI decided to utilize Stage Tec products for broadcasting
the 1998 San Remo Festival: Three independent CANTUS consoles, 13 NEXUS
base devices in ten different locations, and a large-scale fibre-optic
network are the backbone of the production system as far as audio and
intercom are concerned. This gigantic customized system had been developed
jointly by RAI and Stage Tec in December 1997.
It was then delivered end of January and was put into full operation
exactly one week after the last delivery truck left the site. This
was when the vocal and orchestra rehearsals started.
The actual San Remo Festival followed immediately, and RAI showed four
hours of program each day.
Thanks to their reliable operation and trouble-free handling, CANTUS
and NEXUS have been employed for all San Remo Festivals since, too.
