AURUS, NEXUS, DELEC, TRIAGON, and the C.A.S. Stage-management
System
SALZBRENNER STAGETEC MEDIAGROUP show their products
at an exciting presentation at Leipzig
Leipzig, November 2006: SALZBRENNER STAGETEC MEDIAGROUP
was highly satisfied with the VDT’s new exhibition concept: Hall 4 of the in
the Leipzig Congress Center was completely reserved for putting their products on
display. Thus, SALZBRENNER STAGETEC MEDIAGROUP again presented themselves in the
largest booth of the entire exhibition.
AURUS Provides Generic Functions
In addition to the newly introduced tv and radio on-air console (refer also to the
dedicated release), the appearance of the MEDIAGROUP focused on the large AURUS mixing
console. The console now offers generic software functions for broadcasting, sound
reinforcement, theatre, and recording.
Since early 2006, the AURUS also has excelled in high-quality sound reinforcement
in musical applications on the road – with AIDA – Das Musical and Best
of Musical 2006. These live productions organised by Stage Entertainment were an
overwhelming success, so Best of Musical 2007 will go on tour with two AURUS consoles
again, as was confirmed at the Tonmeistertagung.
Though this year had already seen various innovations in scene automation, dynamic
automation, and virtual VCAs and DCAs, the AURUS exhibited even more new and extra
features at Tonmeistertagung. For the first time in Germany, a demonstration was
given of the latest software version 2.6, which is the essence of many ideas of the
now quite numerous users. For example, a switching contact triggered by pushing the
fader knob of an already closed channel strip downwards beyond its stop – a
functionality originally used for controlling PFL – can now be used for accessing
external devices. A customer had asked for this for conveniently enabling a warning
lamp before opening a microphone channel. Customers who do not utilize the dynamic
automation for example, because they operate their console in live applications only,
can use the automation keys in a similar way for signalling or other control purposes.
This is enhanced by many functions, making the use of the AURUS in extensive NEXUS
audio networks even more convenient.

NEXUS Comes in Handy
The NEXUS digital audio router including a series of new modules was shown at the
SALZBRENNER STAGETEC MEDIAGROUP booth, too. In addition to the new I/O boards with
increased channel count, a number of new controls are now supported, making the use
of external gear much simpler, in particular, in conjunction with the AURUS. Another
exceptional feature are the convenient possibilities provided by the new multichannel
meters. Now, 48 instead of 24 signals can be viewed at the same time. A special feature
is the parameter window: Clicking the meter, for example, of a microphone input will
open a window where all relevant parameters of that input are displayed and can be
modified. A similar functionality is available for output meters: Double-clicking
an output meter will open the interactive parameter window of the microphone input
routed to that output. This feature is useful in many scenarios where the levels
of just a few microphone channels are to be controlled.
Besides, the standard versions as well as the new small single-unit NEXUS version
were on display in operation at the exhibit booth in Hall 4.
Stage-management System plus Intercom
A product targeting at the theatre market is the big stage-management console designed
on the basis of the C.A.S. 300. In particular, the convenient control options for
audio and light signalling were presented to numerous prospects from operas and theatres.
Another specialty of the console is the integrated DELEC intercom system, which provides
extensive intercom functionality. The system configuration was similar to the new
stage-management system at the Kassel State Theatre, which will shortly be installed.
Independently of that stage-management console, DELEC also exhibited the latest modules
for their ORATIS intercom system featuring the CENTRIX intercom router. Here, special
emphasis was given to the completely redeveloped control software.

TRIAGON for Theatres
Another unit designed for the theatre market is the TRIAGON modular mixing-console
system that was presented as the newest member of the renowned C.A.S. Mix series.
In the first place, the special characteristic of the TRIAGON is its consistent use
of an IT-based structure where all controls are addressed using the IP protocol.
The primary benefit is that the user interface does not necessarily need to be mounted
into a tray like with traditional designs but can also be connected in a highly de-centralized
fashion using network cabling. Parts of the control units can even be networked on
a WLAN which is very practical in theatres, for example, in rehearsal scenarios.
In addition, the TRIAGON offers many control features for external devices plus outstanding
audio quality, as it is used in connection with NEXUS as an audio router. |
