Ergonomics
Quick and intuitive operation was the main objective when designing
the CINETRA. When the editor is working in twilight – with his
eyes looking on the screen –, a clear and intuitive user interface
featuring keypads and encoder sets is a must for a film console.
The number of eight encoder/indicator sets (which is optimum for quick
perception) in connection with the flexible function assignment is
ideal for concentrated work.
A Central Channel-Control Unit provides for direct access to every
channel function. Selection is made straight on the channel strip or
on the Central Channel-Control Unit. Channels not currently put onto
the interface are nevertheless accessible.
The console dimensions were optimized for best access to all controls
and easy readability of the displays and indicators. In addition, the
console has an even surface, thus providing optimum view on the screen
or the monitor.
The famous paddle switches allowing for blind PFL/AFL control are
as well available as an extensive monitoring section where even the
input channels can be routed directly to the monitoring paths.
The
meter bridge contains special indicators for the bus routing that is
normally highly complex in film mixing. Further, dedicated indicators
are available for master-slave grouping. However, level meters are
not missing at all: LED arc indicators show the current level settings.
No matter whether a 4-channel, 6-channel or even 8-channel mix is
being made - pan fades can be performed comfortably at any time using
the motorized joysticks on the Central Channel-Control Unit. (Motorized
joysticks are not available on U.S. units.)
The bus routing, too, can be controlled using this panel. A feature
that is not available with normal desks: Reassign buses. They provide
for combining certain channels to groups.
Of course, the CINETRA features full snapshot and dynamic automation
facilities.
All NEXUS and CINETRA data including routing and snapshots can be stored
as project files to the internal hard disk or to an external medium.
Thus, changes, remixes, and »urgent« trailers are painless
as long as all other studio components are reliable.
