The »XL« version of the AURATUS mixing
system caters for users who
require
a higher number of channels. The AURATUS XL has a similar
compact
structure and the same simple operation as the AURATUS
but offers increased signal-processing capacities for up to 140 audio
channels.
The increased processing power also extends the bus layout:
8 sums and groups each plus 16 aux and N-1 buses each.
If requested, the XL can be supplied in larger frames for an
extended
number of channel strips (up to 40 faders plus multi-functional
and TFT panels).
Unlike the AURATUS, the XL also provides scene-automation functions
based on snapshots that can be recalled sequentially during a
show. This functionality makes the XL the perfect solution for use
in theatres.
Hardware
One of the major differences between the two AURATUS versions
is the DSP boards employed: While the 54-channel AURATUS needs
just the 3-U processor board on a NEXUS Base Device, the XL with
its 140 channels requires three 6 U boards, housed inside a NEXUS
STAR.
The NEXUS STAR router offers exceptional routing capacities and
is equipped with MADI and/or optical interface boards providing the
interfaces
to studio equipment or NEXUS Base Devices.
The RMD mixing boards inside the NEXUS STAR have star topography
access to all desired NEXUS inputs and outputs. System operation
is nonetheless transparent: all the user needs to do is use the
matrix windows to connect the desired sources to the required outputs – the
NEXUS system will take care of the routing connections
involved.
In addition to the RMD boards, the XL requires an AURUS RMC
board to control the console. It mainly deals with the DSP boards
and stores all console settings.
Software
The DSP hardware used on this system requires proprietary software.
The firmware (i.e. the internal control and DSP software) remains
hidden
to the user, and the console still feels and operates like the
standard
version. Only the AURATUS XL configuration software differs
from the standard version: input and output assignments to the
console
resources, for instance, need to be performed using this
software.
This also applies to scene automation.
Configuration
While the standard AURATUS version stores the configuration settings
on a data card, using an offline PC, which needs to be connected
to the AURATUS mixing board, the AURATUS XL system can
only be configured while online. To this end, a configuration computer
needs to be connected to the RMC mixing-processor board.
All configuration data is stored there and are preserved when the
console
is switched off.
Optional operation of the NEXUS system also requires the use of
a configuration computer. The NEXUS system allows you to connect
one or several PCs to any Base Device on the network, or the NEXUS
STAR, and to take it from there. The console, for its part, can only be
configured with a computer connected to the RMC. |
