116th AES: Bayerischer Rundfunk Broadcasting Service
and SALZBRENNER STAGETEC MEDIAGROUP presented new radio OB Van during
the AES Convention
Berlin, May 2004: Bayerischer Rundfunk BR broadcasting
service in Munich has purchased two new radio OB vans and a TV OB van,
each equipped with a CANTUS control room by SALZBRENNER STAGETEC MEDIAGROUP
based in Buttenheim, Germany. One of the new radio vans was now an
impressive eyecatcher on the 116th AES Convention, presented directly
in front of the main entrance to the show.
The radio van exhibited on the AES features a CANTUS console with 128
DSP channels. The audio routing is entirely based on a NEXUS audio
routing system with 396 sources and 332 destinations. There is only
one bay for external connectivity located at the rear, inside the van,
as it is standard with BR vans. Two mobile NEXUS base devices round
out the audio network. Two existing base devices or an extra TrueMatch
RMC unit can supplement the network, providing a total of 116 microphone
inputs. An OMUX optical multiplexer is used for changing the routing
between the external fibre-optic lines of these devices. NEXUS is also
in charge of intercom functions in the van. This is accomplished using
customized subscriber units connected to the audio router via the XRI
general-purpose I/O board.
After having successfully equipped its audio control room at the Herkulessaal
(Hercules Hall) at Munich Residence with a huge CANTUS installation
in 2003, this is for the first time that the BR has commissioned the
entire audio installation of their OB vans from the MEDIAGROUP. The
main contractor, VTS Selhuber, based in Eglhausen near München,
installed interior fittings, acoustics, air conditioning and the entire
video system of the TV van. The audio and fibre-optic cabling prepared
by the MEDIAGROUP was also partly pre-installed in Eglhausen, rendering
it unnecessary to remove the interior fittings to install the audio
system.
Very well attended was also an exhibitor seminar held by SALZBRENNER
STAGETEC MEDIAGROUP about the technical concept of the radio OB vans
on Sunday. |
