AES Convention, Amsterdam, Mai 2008: Das große Mischpultsystem AURUS wurde in Amsterdam mit einer ganz neuen Option gezeigt: einer virtuellen Bedienoberfläche, die das Mischpult um acht Faderzüge erweitern oder parallel zu den Mischpult-Faderzügen eingesetzt werden kann. Bei dem so genannte AURUS Virtual Surface handelt es sich um eine Software, die in auf der Messe auf einem Tablett-PC mit Touch-Screen betrieben wurde. Über WLAN mit dem AURUS vernetzt, dient diese drahtlose Einheit als kleine, mobile Fernbedienung zum Beispiel während des Probenbetriebs. Ohne großen Umbau lassen sich Einstellungen in der Probe mit dem Tablett-PC erarbeiten und im AURUS abspeichern. Wie bei STAGETEC üblich, kann die AURUS Virtual Software auch an bereits bestehenden Mischsystemen nachgerüstet werden.
Mit dieser neuen Steuerung über einen Tablett-PC betritt STAGETEC Neuland in der Mischpultbedienung von Großkonsolen. Entsprechend hoch war das Interesse während der AES Convention. Das AURUS Virtual Surface war zunächst für den Theaterbetrieb gedacht, bei dem der Tonmeister auf einfache Weise aus dem Saal heraus das Mischpult in der Tonregie steuern möchte. Auf der AES Convention zeigten sich jedoch auch zahlreiche Broadcaster interessiert, sei es für den Probenbetrieb bei großen TV-Shows oder sogar zur Umsetzung neuer Sendeformate.

AES Convention, Amsterdam, May 2008: The large mixing system AURUS was shown in Amsterdam with a brand new option: a virtual control interface which can either append eight additional fader control channels to the console or be run in parallel with the mixing console’s faders. The AURUS Virtual Surface is a software application which was demonstrated during the AES Convention running on a touch screen tablet PC. When networked with AURUS via WLAN, this compact unit serves as a roving remote control. For example during rehearsals, mixing console settings can be developed, refined and stored in the AURUS. The AURUS Virtual Surface can – as is usual for STAGETEC products – be retrofitted in existing mixing systems.
With this innovation, STAGETEC is once again entering new fields in the world of large digital audio mixing consoles. This explains the keen interest in the new module during the AES Convention. The AURUS Virtual Surface was initially intended for theatre use, to give the sound engineer an easy method of controlling the remote AURUS console in the control room directly from the hall. Nevertheless, at the convention many broadcasters were paying considerable attention to the new unit for rehearsing large TV shows and for developing new and creative programme concepts.
