+ Redundancy

The AURATUS/NEXUS system allows a large number of resources to be used in parallel:

  • Fibre-optic connections: Redundant fibre-optic lines can be routed between the AURATUS and the NEXUS Base Devices. If a fibre-optic link fails, the system switches to a backup link automatically and within one sample.
  • Sync sources: Automatic Sync source selection on failure of the current sync source is an integral part of NEXUS. If no external source is available, the system will synchronise to a Base Device internal clock generator.
  • Power-supply units: Base Devices can be equipped with redundant power supplies, for example, for operation on separate circuits. If a power-supply (or the power) fails, the backup power supply will resume operation without interruption.

AURATUS has its own redundant power supply.

+ System Monitoring Using SNMP

Many companies use the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) as a centralised management solution for system monitoring of routers, computers, servers, etc. NEXUS networks can also be monitored using SNMP. The XCI communication-interface card acts as an interface between the NEXUS and SNMP. The card forwards general information (e.g. the number of Base Devices) as well as all error messages from the NEXUS network to the SNMP Manager. NEXUS logic functions can also be used to generate SNMP messages. Any event that can be detected using logic functions can be reported through SNMP.

+ Dedicated OS

The entire AURATUS/NEXUS hardware and software is based on proprietary Stage Tec designs. Stage Tec has designed and optimised its own console operating system. This ensures reliability and independence from other vendors and also offers many advantages when it comes to maintenance.
Microsoft Windows is required to use the offline editor. 

+ NEXUS: Reliability from a Distributed System

NEXUS “distributed intelligence” prevents complete failure in the case of malfunction. Failed components are located immediately thanks to a graphical alert system. The interface cards are hot-swap-enabled, i.e. they can be replaced during operation without affecting other system components. Replacement cards are available to the system within seconds.

+ Synchronisation

All AURATUS audio processors and NEXUS Base Devices in the overall system are synchronised to a common clock source. The clock signals are distributed via the fibre-optic connections, eliminating the necessity for a separate wordclock network.

AURATUS and NEXUS support all common sampling rates: 44.1 KHz, 48 KHz, 88.2 KHz and 96 KHz.

The NEXUS controller boards (XCPU, RCX) are equipped with precision WCL generators and can be used as a studio master clock. 

+ System Boot

Data stored on the AURATUS mixing-console system will survive even the longest power failure. When the outage is over, the console will restore its previous settings within a few seconds and will be functional immediately.

NEXUS Base Devices - and therefore the entire routing system - are ready for operation within a few seconds of powering up or a mains failure and recall all settings valid before the system was powered down (data-memorization facility). System set-up and signal-distribution settings are also included in the data memory. 

+ Fibre-Optic Connections

The use of fibre-optic cables for system control and audio, data and word-clock information distribution simplifies the installation and makes the system insusceptible to electromagnetic interference and ground-loops.

A simple and cost-effective RJ-45 link connects the AURATUS console to the audio processor. This cable carries both control messages and the digital audio needed for talkback and signal control. 

+ Flexible System Configuration

The modular concept of AURATUS and NEXUS allows for custom configuration of the entire system. This can be extended, if necessary, with redundant components and special features.

Diverse interface cards are available for the various audio formats. Subsequent expansion is possible at any time.

+ Proven Quality

Stage Tec products are designed for professional applications and are therefore built to exacting standards. The audio quality and hardware components meet even the most stringent requirements.

AURATUS complies with all requirements regarding analogue inputs and outputs as described in the IRT specifications 3/2 and 3/5. The quality of the digital and analogue audio interfaces has been tested and approved by the Rundfunk-Betriebstechnik institute (RBT, Nuremberg/Germany), RAI (Italy), ABC’s Evaluation Labs (New York), and CCTV (China).

+ Quality Assurance

All assemblies are subjected to extensive testing prior to delivery. The test routines and measurement sessions are aimed at ensuring that all functions work as expected and to verify the specifications detailed in the data sheets. Each panel is first subjected to highly efficient, computer-controlled test routines, inspected by hand and is subsequently subjected to durability tests within the entire system. More complex assemblies must also pass stringent endurance and individual tests..

+ Logistics

The AURATUS/NEXUS system is ideal for installation in OB trucks and for live applications. The console is flat, very shallow and characterised by low weight. The audio processor rack containing all the required input and output cards is only 3U high.

The routing system is scalable and can include further remote Base Devices as required. Energy consumption of each individual component is very low, thus all individual components are resistant to wear and tear while generating only a correspondingly limited amount of heat. Under normal working conditions no supplementary ventilation or air conditioning system is required. 

+ Power Control

One of the outstanding features of the AURATUS mixing system is its low power dissipation. In other words: The system is thus well suited to mobile use and small control rooms because it generates a minimal amount of heat.

The AURATUS console and NEXUS Base Devices are usually powered by supplies that use automatic switchover. In the event of a power failure, power supplies connected to separate mains circuits ensure that system operation is not interrupted. NEXUS Base Devices can be equipped with redundant power-supply units on request. 

+ Maintenance

Maintenance of the AURATUS mixing console system is supported in many ways. For example, the operating software of NEXUS Base Devices and AURATUS audio processors can be updated from the NEXUS configuration computer.

The audio processor and other NEXUS cards can be replaced during operation (“hot swap”). This also applies to the AURATUS control panels.

Error messages and the location of faulty components are displayed in separate dialogue windows on the NEXUS configuration computer. All issues are logged by the system to facilitate subsequent troubleshooting.
